Deep Fried Neo Kobe Pizza Recipe

img-responsive

First, let’s explain this long running gag. The creator of the Metal Gear Solid created an adventure game for the Sega CD (Mega CD) called Snatcher. Featuring a very cyberpunk theme, inspired by Blade Runner.

In the dystopian future directors always come up with something special. It became one of the earliest video game memes that exist. Many found it entertaining because, well, people in the 90s liked gross things, right?

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Two cans of chicken noodle soup
  • A slice of pizza (Pan pizza preferred)
  • Deep Fryer
  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Garlic Salt
  • Cayenne
  • Black Pepper
  • Tapatio Doritos
  • Paprika
  • Optional: chopped onion

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup of flower into your dredging bowl
  2. Add 1 tbsp sugar
  3. 1 tbsp garlic salt
  4. 1 tbsp black peppe
  5. 1/2 cup of cayenne
  6. 2 tbsp of paprika
  7. A handful of crushed Tapatio doritos
  8. 1 tsp chopped onion spice
  9. Mix all of the above into a bowl. Set it aside for now.
  10. Open a can of chicken noodle soup and pour it into your soaking bowl.
  11. Add 1 cup of water to broth. (Not an extra cup, but the Cambell’s soup can calls for a cup of water for the soup) I’d also experiment with just using 2 cans of broth without water for a more robust taste.
  12. Place a slice of cold pizza face down in the broth.
  13. Leave it there for about 10-20 minutes. Less than that is fine, but the bare minimum is five minutes.
  14. Take out of soaking bowl and let it stop dripping.
  15. Dredge the pizza in your flour mix.
  16. (Optional) Let it sit for five minutes and dredge it again for extra flavor.
  17. Deep Fry the Pizza at 375 for 3 minutes. (put the pizza face down, it will float)
  18. Make chicken noodle soup as per directions on the label.
  19. Let the pizza and chicken noodle soup sit for 5 minutes.
  20. Then you’re done! Put the pizza in the soup and enjoy!

Notes

Some find it difficult to eat the pizza as a whole slice while inside the bowl. I would suggest cutting them in pieces if you’d like it to be as accessible as any ordinary soup you’d eat with chopsticks.

The game this was based on is Japanese and traditionally is eaten with chopsticks.

The slice of pizza I used had bacon and pepperoni on it. Your mileage may vary with other toppings. As for the flour mix, it’s not particularly spicy, but it does give it that nice rustic feel. I grew up in the USA South, and I can hardly find good hearty food like this in the Pacific Northwest.
